EMDR Training Group offers registration discounts to pre-licensed and provisionally licensed clinicians as well as full-time employees of nonprofit organizations. These discounted fees can be found on our website.

Nonprofit Employees: Nonprofit employees must submit an agency letter confirming employment status during registration.

Provisionally Licensed: Some of these license types include associate, intern, limited, provisional, temporary, and pre-license. Licenses will be verified near the time of registration to confirm eligibility for this discount.

Other: Discounts may be offered to groups of 3 or more registering together. These groups should contact us to discuss discounted rates.

3.3 Requirements During Registration

License Information Trainees must provide their state license information during the registration process in order to verify eligibility.

Confidentiality Agreement: EMDR Training participants are strictly prohibited from discussing, outside of training sessions, the content of any client examples, demonstrations, as well as audio and video recordings provided by EMDR Training Group. Any breach of confidentiality will result in removal from training without a refund.

Caseload: EMDR training should be completed when the trainee has an active caseload with which they may apply and hone their new skills. However, this is not a requirement especially if the trainee anticipates having clients in the near future.

4.0 ATTENDANCE

4.1 EMDRIA Completion Requirements

Completion of EMDR Basic Training requires participants to attend the following hours, in full:

  • 40 hours of instructional training (live lecture + practicum)

  • 10 hours of consultation

4.2 Training Schedules

EMDR Training Group offers two versions of EMDR Basic Training:

Two-Part EMDR Basic Training: This is the traditional EMDR Basic Training schedule whereby the material is divided into two parts, each of which is scheduled over three days. The two parts occur approximately 4-6 weeks apart from one another. Trainees sign up to complete the training with their cohort meaning they are committing to attend both parts of the training in full.

5-Day EMDR Intensive Basic Training: This training course occurs over the course of five days as opposed to being presented in two parts. This version of Basic Training is more intensive as more material is presented over a shorter span of time.

4.3 Late Arrival, Early Outs, and Absences

Leaving early or arriving late, regardless of circumstances, will result in an incomplete training requiring the following:

Two-Part EMDR Basic Training Course: When a trainee participates in a two-part EMDR training course, they will only be required to repeat and complete the missed part of the training at a later date. An administrative fee of $250 is applied for each part that must be rescheduled.

5-Day EMDR Intensive Basic Training Course: When a trainee participates in an EMDR 5-Day Intensive training course, they will be required to complete the training again in its entirety as the order of the content may change in future training courses. This ensures that trainees receive all the required education. An administrative fee of $500 is applied to participate in another training course for trainees who are unable to complete their original training course in full.

4.4 Course Materials

EMDR Training Manual: Participants are provided with a digital copy of the EMDR Training Manual approximately 10 days prior to training. It is not required that participants print this material.

Supplemental Training Material: Participants receive a digital copy of the PowerPoint via email approximately 10 days prior to training. It is not required that trainees print this PowerPoint but is rather offered as reference material.

Required Reading: Shapiro, Francine. (2017). Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Third Edition: Basic Principles, Protocols, and Procedures. New York: Guildford Press

Access to Course Materials: Participants will retain access to the online learner portal which contains all course materials for at least 12 months from the start of their training. Participants are encouraged to save copies of training materials during that time.

Reissuing of Lost Course Materials: Participants who have lost access to the learner portal and need course materials reissued to them may contact us within three years of their training cohort start date. EMDR Training Group will reissue access to the training manual only.

4.5 Supervised Practicum

Participation in the supervised practicum is a requirement of the training and is monitored by instructors. A therapist/client relationship is not established between participants, and content presented or discussed in practicum should remain confidential. Participants may wish to discuss real-life experiences as part of this training program in order to appreciate the subjective experience of EMDR as a client would and to provide valid training experiences for other participants.

Participants are not required to use personal experiences if it’s determined this would be too triggering and result in unnecessary mental distress. Additionally, case material and content presented, discussed, and viewed as part of EMDR Basic Training may be equally disturbing or triggering. If a participant is concerned about their emotional reaction during practicum, they should notify their trainer/consultant immediately. It is the participant’s responsibility to seek and obtain appropriate professional assistance if needed.

4.6 Live Demonstrations

EMDR Training Group may use participants on a volunteer basis to demonstrate techniques during training. Such demonstrations are to remain confidential and are not at any time to be considered actual therapy as they are merely for demonstration purposes. Participants acknowledge that at no point will a client-therapist relationship be present or created during these demonstrations.

4.7 Recorded Video Demonstrations

EMDR Training Group may replay recorded videos to demonstrate various EMDR techniques. Such videos are to remain confidential.

4.8 Basic Training Consultation Hours

As part of the purchase price, EMDR Training Group includes the 10 consultation hours required by EMDRIA. These consultation hours are offered in a group setting with a maximum of 10 trainees per meeting. A variety of consultation dates will be provided for trainees to sign up for at the end of part one of Basic Training.

In the event a trainee is unable to attend at the times offered, they will need to schedule individual consultation sessions at an additional cost of $100 per hour. If a trainee signs up for consultation groups and does not present to them, they will be required to schedule individual consultation groups at an additional cost of $100 per hour. If EMDR Training Group has availability in the trainee’s cohort consultation groups, we will accommodate the request to assign a new time.

If a trainee wishes to obtain their consultation hours from an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant or Consultant in Training outside of EMDR Training Group at their own expense, they must first request instructor approval. If granted, EMDR Training Group will require a letter from the consultant confirming the number of hours obtained. Partial refunds are not issued for unused consultation hours.

4.9 Final Assessment

A final assessment must be completed by trainees in order to complete EMDR Basic Training. This assessment is provided to all trainees at the beginning of part one to allow for completion as the material is presented. It will be submitted electronically on the final day of Basic Training

4.10 Evaluations

Participants will be asked to complete evaluations and provide feedback on the quality of instruction, knowledge, and expertise of instructors, the usefulness of the training, and the fulfillment of educational objectives. EMDR Training Group will use this feedback to adjust and improve our overall training.

4.11 Continuing Education Credit

EMDR Basic Training must be completed in its entirety, including attendance of instructional, practicum, and consultation hours, assigned readings, and evaluation forms before CE Credit or Certificate of Completion is issued. EMDR Training Group does not issue partial CE Certificates. EMDR Training Group is an approved provider of CEUs for the Texas LPC, LCSW, and LMFT licenses.

4.12 Timely Completion and Records Requirements

Participants who begin EMDR Basic Training must complete the entire training within 12 months from their initial start date. Training rosters and participant records will be maintained for a minimum of 5 years. These rosters are submitted to EMDRIA within 120 days of completion of the training.

4.13 Auditing a Training

Professionals who have completed EMDR Basic Training in the past either through any EMDRIA-approved training provider may audit our course. Auditors do not participate in the practicum portion of Basic Training and will not receive continuing education credits. They only attend to hear the lecture portion as an opportunity to refresh their knowledge.

4.14 Fees and Payment Plans

Fees for EMDR Basic Training are outlined below:

  • Fully-licensed: $1295

  • Provisionally licensed: $1195

  • Nonprofit Employee: $1195

  • Audit: $295

  • Reschedule of Part One or Two: $250 per part

  • Reschedule of 5-Day Intensive: $500

Payment plans are available by request only before registration. These plans require a 50% deposit with the remainder due at least 14 days prior to training. Failure to pay in full at least 14 days prior to the start of the training will result in the assumption that the trainee wishes to withdraw from the course. EMDR Training Group will attempt to contact the trainee once via the email address provided. If the trainee does not respond within 48 hours of this email notification, they will be withdrawn from the course. Fees will apply in compliance with our refund and cancellation policy based on the date the trainee contacts EMDR Training Group.

4.15 Refunds and Cancellations

To allow individuals on our waitlist the opportunity to attend, the full balance due must be paid in full at least 14 days prior to the start of the class.

  • 14+ Days’ Notice: We will provide a full refund less a $150 administrative fee.

  • 7-13 Days’ Notice: We will provide a full refund less a $250 administrative fee.

  • Less than 7 Days’ Notice: 50% of the total cost of your training will be forfeited. If you have already paid your balance in full, you may utilize the remaining 50% as credit toward future training less a $150 administrative fee. This credit must be used within 6 months from the first date of your original training or it will be forfeited in its entirety.

It is our intent to avoid cancellation or rescheduling of any program or event. Unfortunately, circumstances occasionally require us to make changes. This course requires a minimum enrollment of 20 participants. Classes with less than 20 registrants are subject to cancellation or rescheduling at the discretion of the trainers. Classes will be canceled no less than 7 days prior to the start date of the class. Cancellation notices will be sent to registrants via email to the address provided at the time of registration. Trainees will have the option to receive a full refund of all monies paid or be reassigned to another training date. Neither EMDR Training Group nor any trainer is responsible or liable for expenses incurred due to class rescheduling or cancellation.

4.16 Waiting List

A waiting list is created once a training reaches capacity. In the event a trainee withdraws from training or fails to pay their balance in full in compliance with the payment plan policy, we will begin contacting individuals on the waiting list in the order in which they were added. Each waiting list individual will be given 24 hours to reply confirming their desire to attend and pay their invoice.

5.1 Virtual Training Approval

EMDR Training Group is approved by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) to provide synchronous virtual EMDR Basic Training.

5.3 Virtual Course Materials

Required course materials are made available online 1 week before the first day of training. Individual and Group Consultation

Individual and Group Consultation

Consultation

EMDR Training Group offers EMDR consultation for the purpose of completing the requirements of Basic Training, gaining knowledge regarding complex trauma, building confidence using EMDR, achieving the EMDRIA Certification credential, and achieving the EMDRIA Approved Consultant credential. EMDR Training Group will track participation in consultation meetings. You are expected to come prepared to present case material, complete with notes on that case. Your reason for entering consultation directs the type of consultation activities. As you develop, you may choose to change the focus of the consultation. As soon as you decide to make changes in your focus, please notify the EMDR Training Group in writing and we will discuss the change in activities or requirements. The following clarifies expectations, the general structure of consultation, what consultees can expect of us, and what is expected of you to become EMDRIA Certified in EMDR.

EMDRIA Approved Consultants

Kristie Boggs, LPC, and Kendhal Hart, LPC-S are EMDRIA Approved Consultants. This means that if you have completed Basic Training in EMDR and wish to become an EMDRIA-Certified Therapist, we are approved to provide consultation toward that end. Visit EMDRIA for more information on these requirements.

What the Consultee Can Expect from the Consultant

  • EMDRIA currently requires a minimum of 20 hours of consultation (at least 10 hours must be individual consultation) to apply for EMDRIA Certification. We require work samples of all 8 Phases and 3 Prongs of the standard EMDR therapy, and evidence of correcting any concerns prior to writing a recommendation letter for EMDRIA Certification. If you use more than one Approved Consultant in your journey toward EMDRIA Certification, we require a minimum of 3 hours of individual consultation prior to considering a recommendation letter for you to submit for EMDRIA Certification.

  • We encourage you to seek consultation from other consultants if they have a specialty area that fits your needs.

  • We will document and track our time spent in consultation and will retain documentation of our consultation together for a five-year period from the date our work together concludes. We will write a letter of recommendation or written verification if you have acquired the skills and knowledge base to be Certified and demonstrate this. If the skills and knowledge have not been demonstrated, we can provide written documentation of the time spent in consultation, the skills and knowledge acquired and the areas still needing improvement. We will discuss issues as they arise especially if you are having difficulty.

  • We will keep abreast of current trends and changes happening with EMDR and trauma treatment.

  • We will provide consultees with new information and accommodate your needs as long as it stays within the scope of our knowledge.

  • We will refer to other consultants if your needs are beyond our scope.

  • We will schedule our individual appointments as schedules permit. The suggested frequency is at least 1 hour per month.

  • We will make efforts to provide a safe and supportive learning environment. Any concerns about this, when shared with us, will be addressed with you in private.

Expectations of Consultees

  • You are expected to come prepared to present case material, complete with notes on that case.

  • As much as you can, limit the disclosure of a client’s identifying information.

  • You are expected to practice within the ethical guidelines of both your license and professional associations. EMDRIA states that if there is no professional association, then the APA’s code of ethics will be the standard for all EMDRIA members. It is your responsibility to stay current on both the laws and ethics applicable to them.

EMDRIA Certification

  • Examples of your clinical work are essential to the consultation process. You will need to come prepared with near-verbatim transcripts for consultation groups and/or video or audio recordings of your client sessions for individual consultation. You will need to obtain the necessary releases from clients. The verbatim/video/audio must include your words and interventions.

  • You will need to demonstrate proficiency and fidelity to the standard EMDR therapy and also an awareness of situations in which modifications to standard EMDR therapy are necessary in order to safely and effectively treat the client. This may include reading and training outside of a consultation.

Consultation versus Supervision

Consultation is not supervision. Consultation focuses on the mastery of standard EMDR therapy and integrating EMDR into your practice. You are responsible for the therapeutic relationship with your clients and competency in the modalities you offer. As a consultant, we do not hold liability for how you practice. If you are seeking consultation toward EMDRIA Certification, we will be evaluating your proficiency and fidelity to the standard EMDR therapy and your awareness of situations in which modifications to standard EMDR therapy are necessary in order to safely and effectively treat the client. Consultation does not substitute for foundational psychotherapy skills. Should concerns in this area become evident, we may require that these concerns be remedied prior to writing a recommendation for Certification.

Individual and Group Consultation Cancellation Policy

If a consultee is unable to attend a scheduled consultation meeting, they are required to provide at least 24 hours’ notice. If a consultee fails to provide 24 hour’s notice, they will forfeit the prepaid fee. If a consultee schedules a consultation meeting and no-shows the meeting, they will forfeit the prepaid fee. If a consultee cancels a scheduled meeting after payment, they may use the prepaid fee toward the scheduling of another meeting to be scheduled within 30 calendar days or may request a refund less a 10% administrative fee.
